Important Update: service improvement pause
Thank you for your interest in the Norfolk and Waveney Mind Low-Cost Counselling Service. We understand that taking the step to seek support is incredibly important, and we appreciate you considering us.
To ensure we can offer you and all future clients the best possible experience and a truly sustainable, high-quality service, we are making some important system and service improvements behind the scenes.
What this means:
- Referrals on Hold: We are temporarily pausing the acceptance of new referrals for approximately six weeks.
- Reopening Date: We anticipate resuming the acceptance of new referrals in mid-February.
We know this may be disappointing, but this essential pause will allow us to streamline our processes and enhance the way we deliver our vital counselling services. Our aim is to come back even stronger, more efficient, and better equipped to support your mental well-being journey.

What is Low Cost Counselling?
Low cost counselling offers person-centred therapy and integrative therapy. The therapy can be both short or long term (up to 1 year) depending on which will be of most benefit. Sessions take place weekly.
The service facilitates positive change by improving the client's ability to establish and maintain relationships, enhancing the client's effectiveness and ability to cope, promoting the decision-making process and facilitating client potential.
**Please note this is NOT a free service. Initial assessments are free. Fees from August 2025 are then £27 per session. Sessions are 50 minutes long.
Who is Low Cost Counselling for?
This service is suitable for people with mild to moderate mental health concerns. The service has successfully helped many people through a difficult time in their life, whether due to past life experiences or current issues. This service is unfortunately not able to support clients alcohol or substance misuse issues, or active suicidality as we are a trainee volunteer placement. We are also not currently able to offer specialist interventions such as EMDR.
Our Low-Cost Counselling Service operates throughout Norfolk and Waveney, and is happy to provide virtual counselling.
Credentialed Therapists
Our Credentialed Therapist list contains contact, location and pricing information for local, fully qualified counsellors who have also completed over 400 hours of service with us or other services. All have been vetted by our Counselling Manager.

Our volunteer trainee counsellor placement roles are for trainee or qualified counsellors who are undertaking or have completed a BACP or UKCP training courses.
We offer up to forty clinical placements and volunteering opportunities across two sites. One in NR7 at Norfolk and Waveney Mind's Head Office and one in the city centre of Norwich in the grounds of Norwich Cathedral.
This service provides clinical placements for counsellors in training and voluntary counselling positions to qualified counsellors wishing to donate their time.
The counsellor in training can gain skills and experience whilst accruing their first 100 hours of clinical counselling practice or if they are qualified they can increase their clinical hours whilst gaining further experience of the counselling relationship.
