As part of a collaborative project with the ICB (Integrated Care Board), we are expanding our provision of training for NHS staff, Social Care staff and Volunteers working in Norfolk and Waveney.
 
Over the next 6 months, we will be offering a number of different workshops to support the learning and development of public sector workers and volunteers who work with individuals with mental health conditions.
 
All places are fully funded by the ICB and are open to adults aged 18 and over. However, you must work in client/service user facing role to be eligible for these courses.

Mental Health Awareness Training

This one-day course aims to spark a conversation about mental health and the impact it has on the world around us. Due to the prevalence of poor mental health, it is likely that delegates will know someone (a family member, friend or colleague) who is affected, or be affected themselves.
 
Delegates will also learn about the origins of poor mental health, prompting discussions about how we feel these in our mind, bodies and social positions.
 
Content
  • The impact of poor mental health within the biopsychosocial model.
  • The effects of stigma attached to mental health.
  • The origins of poor mental health and some common mental health conditions.
  • A focus on diagnosis. E.g. Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, Paranoia, psychosis, and associated conditions.
  • Emotional Regulation.
  • The effect of Psychiatric medication and how this may affect a client’s physiology.
  • Explore and understand the challenges faced and how to promote hope and empathy.
  • Preparing delegates for working with people and how to support their individual needs.

Suitable for:
Non-clinical NHS, social care and council staff, VCSE staff

Mental Health First Response Training

Expanding on our one-day ‘Mental Health Awareness’ course, Mental Health First Response is a two-day course which incorporates more practical and interpersonal skills. The aim of the course is to develop a delegate’s confidence and ability to support and reassure a person in distress.
 
Content:
  • An in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing. 
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues. 
  • How to reassure and support a person in distress. 
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening.
  • How to support someone’s recovery by guiding them to additional referral support.
  • How to support an adult with a long-term mental health issue or disability to thrive. 
  • Tools to look after your own mental wellbeing. 
 
Suitable for:
Organisational mental health first responders, patient facing (incl. tel) NHS, social care and county council staff, VCSE staff

Suicide Awareness & Prevention Training

Suicide Awareness Training

Suicide Awareness is a 3.5-hour workshop designed to teach the warning signs of suicide crisis and how to respond.


Content:
  • How to get help for yourself or learn more about preventing suicide.
  • The common causes of suicidal behaviour.
  • Looking at the lived experience of suicidal thinking.
  • The warning signs of suicide.
  • How to get help for someone in crisis.

Suitable For:
‘Non-Specialist’ front line staff working in health, social care, the wider public and other services.
Individuals who are likely to have direct and/or substantial contact with people who may be at risk of mental ill health, self-harm or suicide.



Suicide Responders Training

This one-day workshop aims to develop delegates’ understanding of mental health, mental distress and suicide. The workshop will explore why people experience mental distress, the conditions that can cause this to lead to suicidal ideation and someone taking their own life.
 
Content:
  • Understanding mental health, well-being and shame.
  • When life exceeds our ability to cope with it – looking at the lived experience of suicidal thinking.
  • Using Schneidman’s suicidal commonalities model to understand the psychological processes surrounding suicide.
  • Hopelessness and helplessness – identifying factors leading to vulnerability.
  • Using Schneidman’s commonalities model to identify protective factors.
  • Understanding the links between self-harm and suicide.
  • Using trauma informed practice to understand core skills when working with suicidal people.
  • Applying core skills in a crisis and moving people towards safety.
  • Exploring what help is available and how to access it.
 
Suitable For:
NHS, health, social & primary care staff, voluntary sector, county council and wider public services staff. Individuals who have regular and intense contact with people experiencing mental distress and mental ill health, who may be at risk of self-harm or suicide. This course is aimed at staff who can provide direct interventions through their job role.

Eating Disorders Training

This one-day course looks at common eating disorders and the behaviours and thought processes associated with them. Delegates will learn how to spot the signs of an eating disorder, as well as practical skills to confidently and sensitively support someone who is affected.

Understanding the most diagnosed types (anorexia, bulimia and binge eating, ARFID)
How to recognise signs and symptoms
Statistics and impact
How to support recovery & understand lifestyle.
How to have a meaningful and supportive conversation including
helpful and unhelpful language and behaviour.

NHS, health, social & primary care staff, voluntary sector, county council and wider public services staff who have regular and intense contact with people who have eating disorders
